Although I live in a residential house in Jamaica, once in a while I like to treat myself to a resort. I’m not a huge fan of the crowds so I tend to lean towards the smaller more quaint locations.
3. The WYNDHAM in Kingston
This hotel is more suitable for those with business on their agenda since its located right in the heart of New Kingston. It’s much different from my next two picks, but I do a lot of work in Kingston and frequently need a place to stay to avoid the long commute home to the seaside, and this hotel is just right for me.
Right across the street is Emancipation Park, which is very nice for an evening stroll. Christopher’s offers great live jazz music in the evenings, and delicious fritters and sweet potato fries. A place called Treasure Hunt offers roulette games and slot machines for those of you who like a taste of Vegas, and Club Privilege offers a fun night of dancing. All within walking distance away.
2. VALLEY HIGH VILLA in Runaway Bay
This seven-bedroom villa is located in a small upscale town between Montego Bay and Ocho Rios. If you really want seclusion away from the hustle and bustle of the big tourist cities, then this is the perfect place. The owner, Helena, is very nice and accommodating to all of your needs. The view of the sunset is absolutely gorgeous. The place offers a nice pool and deck to hang out and party up with friends, and a private beach just a few minutes away…walking distance if you can stand the heat!
Just half an hour away is Ocho Rios, which offers plenty of dining and nighttime entertainment such as; Evita’s, serving Italian cuisine, and Mykonos, a Greek Restaurant that I love. There’s also Margaritaville, which is great for dancing on a late Saturday night playing all the latest dancehall tunes, and Treasure Hunt casino games offers plenty of slot machines to pass time. In the daytime it’s always fun to go to the well-known waterfalls Dunns River Falls, and for bobsledding and zip lines at Mystic Mountain.
1. CATCHA FALLING STAR in Negril
My favorite resort on the island by far is Catcha Falling Star in Negril. This is also located in my favorite part of the island, Negril, where the sea is calm and pristine, with beautiful white sandy beaches. This resort is small, quaint and cozy tucked away on the cliffs of Negril in the westend. The atmosphere on the grounds is very rain forest-esq with breathtaking views of the sea and sunset. I highly recommend the Sagittarius room, which is perfect for honeymooners or a nice romantic getaway.
Right next-door is Rick’s Cafe, well-known for cliff jumping with cliffs as high as 30ft! Although it’s next door, its far enough so you’re not bothered by the noise, and close enough to walk to and join in all the fun.
I hope you enjoy and rest well!
