The most rewarding part of this excursion is that you can take a dip in the refreshing river if you choose.

My friend and I decided to try out the rafting trip on Martha Brae on the review from this website. We were a little reluctant because the pictures looked like a couples thing since the raft only held two people, but I’m glad that didn’t stop us from going! The rafting trip was so much fun! I don’t know if it was the day we went (a Monday in April), but it wasn’t too crowded. The trip started off with a tour of the grounds. This included the story of how the city got the name, Martha Brae. It came from a very powerful witch who was kidnapped by the Spanish conquistadors who tried to steal her gold. She took them to the river, but since she was so powerful, she was able to change the rapids direction and drown the conquistadors. The legend says that Miss Martha still has her gold hidden near the river and to this day, continues to protect it.
We also had a tour of their herb garden. Our tour guide, Audrey, was very knowledgeable of the purposes of the different herbs. Only in Jamaica will you see marijuana in the middle of an herb garden in a public tour!
We then met Mr. Tony who was our captain of our 20-foot raft. He was so cool. When riding down the beautiful Martha Brae, he educated us on the history of the area, as well as the different flowers and plants that we passed. The area was so beautiful and serene, I absolutely loved it. The water was crystal blue and Mr. Tony gave us time to go take a dip in the refreshing river. Mr. Tony did try to sell some of his handmade goods made out of calabash, which is a native fruit. It was not an issue with him that we ended up not buying anything.
All in all, it was a pleasant trip, I highly recommend rafting down the Martha Brae to anyone who wants to learn more about the history of a beautiful city and the luscious flora of Jamaica while taking a relaxing river float, this is the trip for you!

Great For Couples

I think this is perfect for couples since it's so romantic. The staff is friendly and raft captains seem to be very knowledgeable of the plants and trees along the riverbank. I would recommend this if you've never experienced something like this before.
They're currently doing some construction towards the end of the river, but it didn't take away from the rafting since we were already at the end.
