Green Grotto, Discovery Bay

One of Jamaica’s best known and most prominent natural attraction are the Green Grotto Caves. A guided 45 minute tour will tell you all you need to know about this historic attraction in Discovery Bay. Many insect eating bats live in these caves, and if you're lucky you may see the Yellow Snake who call these caves home. Amongst these critters are underground lakes, tunnels, and stalagmites and stalactites that are over a million years old.

Tip: There are plenty of bats here so don’t wear your best clothing because it might get dirty. Also, wear comfortable shoes.

So Many Bats

If you're already near this attraction, on the north coast, this would be a decent place to visit. The historical aspect of it was interesting as well as the underground lakes and formation of rocks, but since I'm not a huge fan of bats, I had a hard time paying attention to the guide. You really shouldn't wear white or any of your best clothing because there's a very high likelihood you'll be a target for bat droppings. The upside is that they're only insect eating bats, so there's no need for concern when it comes to that. This is probably a good trip for families with children old enough to climb a good number of stairs.
